Mr. Layfield, a proud Chicago native, is a dedicated and accomplished professional with a passion for student development and event planning. A graduate of Hyde Park Career Academy, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Northern Illinois University (NIU) in 2013. Continuing his academic journey, he obtained a Master’s in Education, specializing in Student Affairs, in 2016.

Mr. Layfield’s extensive event planning experience began at NIU, where he served as President of the Campus Activities Board. In this role, he led a team of 12 event planners, overseeing the execution of 24 events each semester, with an impressive budget of $364,000. His leadership was instrumental in planning a wide range of diverse events from 2009 to 2013.

In addition to his event planning expertise, Mr. Layfield has honed his marketing and branding skills through initiatives such as co-founding Campus Live Radio, creating the Liberated Minds Organization, and serving as a social media intern for NIU. These experiences have equipped him with a deep understanding of the power of strategic communication and engagement.

Mr. Layfield's commitment to student development is evident in his roles as a Graduate Assistant for TRIO Student Support Services, Residential Counselor for Upward Bound, and Program Intern for the Chicago Cares One Summer Chicago Program. These positions provided him with invaluable experience in mentoring, advising, and supporting students in their academic and personal growth.

Currently, Mr. Layfield serves as the Vice President of Programming for the Urban Male Network, where he leads initiatives that empower and engage young men of color. He is also an active Brother of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, a Curriculum Specialist for the Becoming a Man Program, and a Youth Advisor for the Gary Comer Youth Center, where he continues to inspire and support the next generation of leaders.
